Welcome to the Pope High School Counseling Page

The Guidance, Counseling, and Career Center provides assistance to Pope students in a variety of areas including academic advisement, career and college planning, and counseling for personal, social, and family problems. Ninety percent of Pope students enter college after high school . . . eighty percent to four year colleges and ten percent to two year colleges. The remainder of students enter vocational/technical schools, the military, or the world of work.

The main focus in our center is helping students prepare for the future. Providing information and guiding students in decision making regarding course selection, career direction, and admission requirements to post secondary institutions are necessary steps in preparing Pope students for the 21st century.

If your rising 9th grader attends Hightower Trail or Dodgen Middle Schools and is a resident in the Pope district, you should have received registation materials for your student at school on Monday Feb 25th.  If you need assistance or have questions about your student's recommendations, you may schedule an appointment to meet with one of the Pope counselors at Dodgen on Wed Feb 27th or Hightower on Thurs Feb 28th.  Please call the 8th grade counselor at your school to make this appointment.

If your rising 9th grader attends a private school but resides in the Pope district, you may call the Guidance Office at Pope to schedule a registration appointment with your child's counselor after we return form Spring Break, the week of April 14th.  The guidance telephone is 770.578.7903.  We have registration packets that you can pick up ahead of time to prepare for your appointment.

JHEP/Accel Program Meeting

Pope Guidance had an informational meeting on Nov. 1st at 6:30 in room 104 about the Joint Enrollment Honors Programs offered by area colleges which provide Georgia high school students with the opportunity to earn college credit hours as they simultaneously meet their high school graduation requirements.  Below are the handouts and PowerPoint presented at this meeting.  If you wish to discuss this option for your student further, contact your child's guidance counselor.

Ask your student to share with you the Freshman Guidance booklet we presented to them during 9th grade guidance lessons the week of September 17th.  If he or she did not have this lesson because of absence, we have a few extras available in the Guidance department.  It's a more "student friendly" version of the information we presented to parents during the parent meeting on Sept 26th.

Some of our families like to start a "Guidance Folder" to keep all of our handouts available for future reference.

Senior Reference Guide and Senior Parent Night

Click on the link below to view the Senior Reference Guide which was given to students during their classroom guidance lesson the week of August 27, 2007.  This file contains a great deal of information that will be helpful to students as they prepare their Post-Secondary Plans.  In addition to going over the information in the guide, Seniors were shown how to check their transcript.  Please ask your child to show you their transcript and the guide to checking the transcript.
