Chris Canter is a 1995 graduate of Wheeler High School. He attended the University of Georgia, later transferring to Georgia State University obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.
During college, Canter worked as a desk assistant at the ABC News Bureau in Atlanta, simultaneously interning at WSB-TV in midtown. He stayed with both agencies (becoming a writer for WSB's news shows) until August 2000, when he landed his first on-air position at a TV station in Lubbock, Texas.
After a year, Canter moved to Medford, Oregon to gain more experience anchoring local news. He worked for several news agencies throughout the state while he obtained his Master of Arts in Teaching from Concordia University.
Canter spent a year in Gwinnett County teaching Language Arts and Journalism. The newspaper he advised at his high school won first place in the state of Georgia.
Canter came to Pope in 2006. He teaches English and Journalism. Canter also coaches the Junior Varsity cheerleading teams. Canter lives in East Cobb with his two beautiful children, his Dalmatians, Duke and Dutch.
