New dress out/participation policy: Students are responsible for obtaining all work missed on days they were absent from the instructor upon their return to class. Students will be given the amount of time to make up class work as is required by the student handbook. All work can be made-up except unexcused absences. Please be sure to show your excuse to your teacher. Failure to do so will result in the absence being considered unexcused. There is no make-up for missed activities days. Each student is allowed 2 excused absences per 6 week period. these may be used for days the student has an exxcused absence only (this includes, but is not limited to college trips, excused sicknesses, school field trips, and/or requests from other teachers for students' presence). After the use of these two free excused absences, 5 points will be subtracted from the students' dress out and participation grade. Unexcused absences for activity days may not be made up. If a student is in class and does not dress out, this will be considered a "dress cut". "Dress Cuts" deduct 5 points from the Dress Out/Participation grade and do not qualify as an excused absence.
Welcome Back!
I know it is week 2 and some are probably already tired of school again, but I have been a little slow to remember how to get to my blog page! Luckily, the school has the best instructional technology guru's in the county to help me figure it out! So I would like to take this time to say that I hope you are refreshed and had an enjoyable HEALTHY summer! I am greatly looking forward to this year as we have a lot of new things going on at pope. There are a handful of new administrators including a new principal and new athletic director. We also have a new look to the Physical Education department, with new rooms and new ideas to keep students motivated and learning! This is going to be a great year to be at Pope High School!
On Tuesday, we will begin our nutrition project!! This will be a fun and easy way to learn about nutrition and hopefully retain it. I will periodically post sites on this page that may help in the project or just in life. I hopefully will have a link to a website devoted to planning meals, however, at the time I am still verifying its validity.
In the meantime, here is the powerpoint.

And here is the project:
Please stand by for "categories" to soon be added.
Parents and students, please take time to look at the blog and feel free to email me at any time.
I will soon have a category for "General Info", in which I will be placing topics of interest, various health and fitness sites, as well as facts and/or new changes in the world of Health and Fitness.
My goal is for this to be a link for students and parents to learn, share, and discuss, so we can all stay on the cutting edge of this field.
With that being said, I strongly urge anyone and everyone to send me links or information that you find interesting or that could benefit someone. If you email it to me, and it is appropriate, I will do my best to post it.
Thank you for your help and cooperation. Getting the community involved is a key component to influencing the health and wellness of students.
All groups should have turned in their "Stress Be Gone" projects by now.
