JANUARY 9, 2012 HAPPY NEW YEAR AND WELCOME BACK!
We will begin this semester by focusing on poetry, specifically The Fireside Poets, Walt Whitman, and Emily Dickinson. You will be writing an essay-length explication of a poem, but we will be explicating a number of poems together in class before you will write your own. For those of you who are planning to take AP Literature next year, poetry explication is critical, for at least one-third of the AP exam consists of poetry analysis.
Tuesday and Wednesday: Powerpoint presentation on The Fireside Poets, focusing on Longfellow's The Song of Hiawatha Download Fireside poets ppt tp
Thursday and Friday: Continued powerpoint presentation of The Fireside Poets, focusing on Longfellow's "The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls" and Holmes "Old Ironsides."
