Everything will be kept in a three ring notebook with dividers. The dividers will be labeled as follows:

  • Weekly Reports
  • Monthly Reports
  • Internship Evaluation
  • Miscellaneous

The following paperwork will be due on August 24:

  • Training Agreement
  • Locater Card
  • Early Release and Insurance Waiver
  • Dismissal from the Program
  • Date to meet with me before school to set up a training plan

The Job Hunt

To be successful on the job hunt, you need to have a plan. This unit will focus on what is included in that plan.

Objectives:

  • explain how to find job openings
  • prepare job resumes, letters of application, and portfolios
  • fill out job application forms correctly
  • prepare for an interview
  • explain how to make a good impression on the interviewer
  • write a follow-up letter after an interview
  • describe the factors to consider before accepting or rejecting a job offer
  • build workplace competencies in using information, social systems, and technology.

This week we are working on how to find job openings.

Each student will design a resume from a personal fact sheet.

TEACHER APPRENTICESHIP

All assignments will be kept in a three-ring notebooks with labeled dividers. The dividers will be labeled: Weekly Reports, Monthly Reports, Evaluations, and Miscellaneous.

The notebook will be turned in three times during the semester. A planner is mandatory in this class.

The Learner

This unit focuses on the students who fill classrooms across the country and the diversity these students represent.

Objectives:

  • explain the concept of cultural diversity and its implication in the classroom
  • describe the demographic trends of U.S. minorities and describe how ethnic and cultural differences between public school teachers and students may foster misunderstanding
  • describe the four basic learning styles and their potential influence on instruction
  • describe the term gifted and talented as applied to students, and explain how gifted and talented students are identified and educated
  • identify the impact of poverty, homelessness, and child abuse on children's classroom behavior and learning
  • describe the structures of U.S. families today, identifying the difficulties that single parents and working parents face in raising children
  • describe the impact that alcohol, drug abuse, and suicide have had on students in recent years
  • describe the problems of school violence and vandalism, and summarize some of the aspects that contribute to student aggression
  • discuss some of the ways that schools, principals, and teachers can reduce the incidence of school violence
  • understand the reasons for students dropping out and discuss successful preventive measures
  • describe and discuss several versions of school choice
