Welcome Parents and Students!

This blog is for students of Mrs. Young at Pope High School.  If you look on the left hand side of this screen, you will see links to different classes I teach. If your student takes German 1, then click on that link to see information about just that class.  Likewise, if your student takes English, then click on that link to see information about just that class.  I look forward to a great semester with your students.

English

Our exam will be this Friday.  Students need to study vocabulary unit 12 and the sections of the Odyssey that we studied in class.

German 1

We will have the exams for 1st and 2nd block tomorrow.  We will have the exam for 4th block on Friday.  Students who did not turn in the final warmup sheets yet can give them to me on their exam day.  Students also need to turn in their final story and their crossword  puzzles on their exam day.

English

We are finishing up reading The Odyssey in class.  The students have an assignment to create another adventure for Odysseus.  They will be working on this for two days and it will be due on Wednesday.  Their exam will be on Friday, May 22nd.  It will have two parts: a vocabulary section and a section on the stories from The Odyssey.

German 1

Today we worked on exam review topics that the students began last week.  They will be reviewing vocabulary for each other in class.  Students should have completed their powerpoints and a crossword puzzle on their individual topics already.  They need to create a story on their topics at home.  I also talked about the format of the exam with them.  They will have a scantron section very similar to the tests we've taken all semester.  They will also have a one page written section.  This will include several personal questions which we will be reviewing this week as well as a story on one of two topics: family life or school life.

German 1

We are completing the written assignment about our mini houses today in class.  Many students completed this yesterday.  Some students will receive a late grade because their houses were not finished on time.  We practiced our dialogues today in class.  These will be presented this Friday.  We will start exam review soon.  The vocabulary handouts from this semester are under pages.

German 1

We have started our last chapter, "House and Home."  The students have been working on a mini house in class this week.  They were given time to complete the outside of their houses in class and some used their time very well and also worked on the inside in class.  The inside of the house must be completed by this Monday, May 11th.  The students have the directions, but they should be sure to include 8 different small rooms inside the house with two things drawn inside of each room.  (For example, the living room could have a sofa and a table.)  We will be writing about the houses in class next week.

We have been practicing the chapter 4 dialogue this week where students discuss grades.  These will be presented tomorrow.   Our chapter 4 test will be on Tuesday, May 5th.  Today and tomorrow in class students are completing the end of chapter 4 writing assessment.  All of these are major grades so encourage your students to study vocabulary and do their best!
