OOPS! Somehow, I missed getting last week’s plan uploaded into the blog. Let’s get caught up! We’re starting a new unit of study – The Middle Ages. Our Anglo-Saxon unit test was last week, and I hope to be finished scoring those in another day or two. It was long and required a great deal of writing, so turn around time for grades is going to be longer! Here’s our plan for this week:
ALERT!!!! - Parallel reading assignment: The Lord of the Flies. These books are available for purchase at just about any bookstore. You might even find copies at a used bookstore. There are several copies available for check-out in the library, but it is first-come, first-served. Also, remember that you are responsible for due dates, fines, etc. Everyone needs to have a copy for use no later than Friday, as we will be starting our background work and reading assignments on that day.
Monday –Middle Ages background! We’re going to spend some time today with learning stations, which are just simple mini-lessons to get our brains focused on this new period of British history.
Tuesday – Notes over Medieval history; discuss Medieval Romance and the Code of Chivalry (handouts). Introduce “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight”. Pre-reading ‘wordle’ activity. Begin reading story.
Wednesday – Writing!!! Iron Man and the Hero’s Journey rough draft papers are due today. We’ll look a bit at content, but mostly we’re going to look at proper MLA format, make revisions, and prepare the paper for final draft publishing. Final copies w/ correct MLA are due Friday. Today is also the day we look back at the three rough-draft essays we’ve written so far and select one to revise, edit, and publish. Once our selections are made, we’ll practice some specific revision strategies and apply those to our rough drafts. The final papers will have to be typed and will be due on Tuesday, February 17.
Thursday – Continue “Sir Gawain…” and analyze as Medieval romance. Guided reading questions for story
Friday – VOCABULARY QUIZ; Parallel reading background information; reading / assignments schedule. In-class group reading / independent reading time
