Up and Coming Events

Our class is preparing two community service events. This year we are going to have a feast for 25 underprivledged students from Powers Ferry Elementary. The plan is to get donations of turkeys which we will cook here at Pope.  I will be sending home a list with an item or two for you to prepare with your student, at home, for the feast.  More details will follow.

The second event is food gift boxes we put together for families at Powers Ferry.  Last year my students decorated,sorted the foods donated and filled the 30 boxes. My class delivered the boxes on a CBI trip.  This was an extaordinary experience. Also more details to follow.

February Updates

Parents and others I hope you take a moment to read  up and coming events and classroom needs.

February Flu is in full bloom.

• I hope your student gave you the letter Dr. Stowers sent home Jan. 30th. I have extra copies if you did not receive the first.
• With all the sneezes and coughs our disinfectant wipes and tissues are gone.  Please send in   a large container of disinfectant wipes and two boxes of Puffs or Kleenex tissues.

Events

• Friday is CBI. The students are going to shop from a list provided by you. In class we have been working on Dollar Buy (add a dollar more to their purchase total). We are going to use this skill out in the community.
• `February 15th CBI trip to U.S. Play.  Students need $5.00 for 1game,1slice of pizza and a drink.

Class Project

Our Simply Bones business is in full swing. The cost of bones is $1.00 a bag and the colorful t-shirts designed by Graphic Arts and made by our students are on sale for $8.00.

CBI

Friday October 5- CBI trip is to Sprayberry Cosmetology.  The students can get hair washed, cut, dried, and manicures. They will need $3.00 to tip the cosmeticians.

Friday October 12- Passion for Pets tour of business.(tentatively scheduled)

Friday October 19- Great Harvest Bread Company

Georgia Aquarium

Thursday October 18- Field trip to aquarium

Wednesday October 10- Deadline for medical forms and money: general admission is $35.00; Behind the Scenes and general admission is $55.00.

September 27, 2007

• We will be going to PetSmart and Kohl's for Friday's CBI. If you need pet supplies to be purchased, please send your student with a list and money for the purchase.

• Students are keeping a food diary. They should be working on completing their food chart.

• Parent Transition Meetings are soon to be scheduled. Information bulletin will be sent home two weeks before the meeting.

• Aquarium Field Trip plans are in the making.

September 5, 2007

Friday, September 7th, is our first Community Based Instruction (CBI) trip. We are going to Walmart where students will have the opportunity to purchase some items from the Student and Classroom Materials lists given at Open House and in class to all students.  Any student wishing to participate in the purchasing of these items, needs to bring $10.00.

Permission forms to participate in CBI need to be returned, with parent signatures, by Thursday, September 6, 2007!!! Students cannot participate without this permission form.

Please return all other forms with requested signatures.

Now that the dust has settled we are ready to really get down to the nuts and bolts of learning.Please check blog  weekly for updates of our CBI trips and any special events. We have a wonderful year planned! We have CBI, Campus Work Study, Thanksgiving feast, Food Drive, our Bones Business,and much more! 

Besides the usual school supplies, the classroom is in need of the following:

2 - paper towels

2- Kleenex

3 -White Board Markers

2 - Lysol wipes - the large container

2 - anti-bacterial hand soap

2 - anti-bacterial hand sanitizer

1 - dish soap

1 pkg - sponges

1 box - microwave popcorn

2 boxes - Granola Bars

1 pkg. - 6oz cups
