End of the Semester is right around the corner!

After today there will be only 8 class days left in the semester!  EOCTs are next week - please refer to the November entry for the days/subjects.  Some NovaNET students took EOCTs in November because they had already finished their modules!  I have tried to update students grades in IParent with notes indicating when I updated the grades.  Due to the nature of NovaNET and IParent I will be figuring students grades "by hand" who have EOCTs.  This means what you see in IParent does not include the EOCT grade.  Please email me with any questions you have concerning the grading.

I hope you and your family have a restful, happy holiday! It has been a pleasure being your student's NovaNET teacher!

November EOCT

Ms. Clune and I have decided that this coming Thursday will be the date that November EOCTs will be given in NovaNET.  This affects 4 students in 2nd block and 5 students in 4th block.  If you child is working on a course that includes an EOCT and their work is not completed at this time, that is not a problem.  There will be EOCTs given in December, as usual.  The dates in December are as follows:

Geometry and Algebra I      Dec. 10 and 11

9th Lit and American Lit     Dec. 10 and 11

US Hist and Econ                Dec. 13 and 14

Biology and Phys Sci            Dec. 13 and 14

Please email me with any questions or concerns you have.

2/3 of the way through the semester!

It is hard to believe but we are now 2/3 of the way through the semester!  All NovaNET students are reminded of where we are in the semester because it is posted on the board every day.  Grades will be updated for all students by next Tuesday and report cards will come home on November 12.  Please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.

The fastest, most reliable method is by email. I check my email many times a day - and even on weekends.

EOCT given in November and December

There will be an opportunity in November for some students to take the EOCT.  The students who have already finished their modules will have this opportunity. EOCTs will also be given in December. The classes that require an EOCT (end of course test) and that are offered in NovaNET are the following:

9th Lit, American Lit, Algebra I , Integrated II, Geometry, Physical Science, Biology, U. S. History

Please email me with any questions or concerns you have about your child's progress in his/her NovaNET classes.  jane.shumway@cobbk12.org

I am sending out letters this week to parents of students that I am concerned about(their progress and/or attendance).  I have also updated some grades in IParent.  All grades will be current by November 8 when they will be submitted for the next grade report.  If I have updated your child's grade, I made a note in the comment section and indicated the date.

NovaNET - Fall Semester, 2006

Welcome to NovaNET!  This is the first semester that NovaNET has been offered at Pope High School, although it has been used in other Cobb County schools for years.  It is mainly a credit recovery program.  It can also be used to help students who transfer to Pope from a traditional schedule high school and have half credits in some subjects.  This course is for highly motivated students who work well on their own.  All NovaNET work is done on-line, in class, with the exception of some writing and reading assignments in English classes.  NovaNET students enrolled in classes that require Georgia EOCT tests at the end of the semester take the EOCT along with students enrolled traditional classes.

Please download the course expectations document (link below) for further details regarding NovaNET.

The first progress report will go home with students on September 29.  NovaNET grades will only be entered at progress report time.  This is done due to the unique nature of the NovaNET class.  If you have any concerns, questions or comments, please do not hesitate to email me.
